Hygiene and Prevention

This is where we collect everything that depends on you between appointments: what to brush your teeth with and how, why you need floss, what to do with your enamel after whitening, and how habits like vaping affect it. Daily care determines whether you come back in six months for a cleaning or for treatment.

Hygiene and Prevention: What It Delivers in Practice

Prevention is the only part of dentistry where the patient decides almost everything. A doctor can remove tartar and seal fissures, but between visits people brush their own teeth. That is why in this section we cover not general advice but specific things: toothbrush stiffness, flossing technique, and what to change in your routine after whitening.

How Often Professional Cleaning Is Needed

For most adults, coming once every six months is enough — this interval coincides with a routine checkup, so it is convenient to combine cleaning with it. More frequent cleaning is recommended for those whose gums bleed, who have braces or crowns, as well as smokers and lovers of coffee and strong tea: their plaque mineralizes faster. The exact interval is set by the doctor after an examination, not remotely. In Almaty, hard tap water and city dust add to this — tartar forms more noticeably, and there is no point in putting cleaning off "for later."

What Depends on Home Care

A cleaning at the clinic returns your teeth to a zero point, and after that everything is determined by your daily routine. Brushing twice a day for two minutes, floss or interdental brushes for the gaps, fluoride toothpaste, and mouthwash as prescribed by the doctor — that is enough to keep plaque from turning into tartar. Cavities most often start where the brush physically cannot reach: between the teeth and in the grooves of the chewing surface. If you remove plaque from exactly those places, most visits to a general dentist become unnecessary.

Book a Cleaning and Checkup

The hygienist will remove plaque and tartar, and the dentist will check the areas your toothbrush can't reach. If early-stage decay is found, it can be seen during the same visit — and treatment will cost less.
