Dental Veneers in Almaty: Types, Prices, Installation Stages

Veneers in Almaty are thin shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth that correct their color, shape, and size. Placement takes 2 to 4 visits. The cost depends on the material and the clinic. It is important to understand that veneers require careful maintenance and are not suitable for every case. The decision is made by the dentist after an examination.

Answer a few questions in the calculator below — and our administrator will send you an estimate for your case before your visit.

What can change the shape and color

Veneers are not the only option. Sometimes the problem can be solved more affordably and without preparation, and the dentist is obliged to tell you so.

Artistic Restoration

Composite is applied in layers directly in the mouth in a single visit. It is cheaper than ceramic and does not require a laboratory, but it darkens within three to five years and needs polishing.

Veneers and Ultra-thin Veneers

Ceramic shells up to one millimeter thick. Ultra-thin veneers are placed with no preparation at all, but only when the teeth are small or there are gaps.

Crowns and Inlays

When there is too little of your own tooth structure left, a veneer will not hold — you need a restoration that covers the entire tooth.

Criteria

How to Spot Good Work

An ideal veneer is E.max ceramic paired with a skilled technician. The four signs below are visible in a close-up photo, so ask your dentist to show you their work up close.

The edge of the veneer sits flush against the gum, with no ledge and no dark margin
Sign 1

Fit to the Gum

The ceramic tucks under the gum with no ledge and no dark rim. A ledge traps plaque, and within a year the gum around such a veneer becomes inflamed.

Translucent cutting edge of a ceramic veneer when viewed against the light
Sign 2

Translucent Incisal Edge

Natural enamel is always slightly more translucent at the edge than at the neck. If a veneer is equally opaque along its entire height, the tooth reads as a fake even from arm's length.

Surface texture of a ceramic veneer in side lighting
Sign 3

Surface Texture

Natural teeth have micro-texture that catches light in bands. Flat, glossy ceramic reflects light as a single spot, and the eye immediately reads it as artificial.

Different width-to-height ratios of the anterior teeth on the model
Sign 4

Proportions and Symmetry

The width-to-height ratio differs for the central incisor, lateral incisor, and canine. The dentist builds symmetry around the facial midline, not the dental arch, otherwise the smile drifts to one side.

Myths About Veneers in Almaty That Make People Put Off Treatment

We address what we hear most often during consultations.

Myth 01

Myth: Veneers Look Unnatural

Modern ceramic mimics the optics of natural enamel. The dentist agrees on the shape and color so the result does not stand out.

Myth 02

Myth: Teeth Are Heavily Ground Down

Placing veneers removes a minimal layer of enamel — about 0.3–0.5 mm. Sometimes no preparation is needed at all.

Myth 03

Myth: Veneers Break Often

With proper care and no excessive loads, ceramic lasts a long time. The dentist selects the material based on your bite.

Myth 04

Myth: Placement Takes a Lot of Time

The process involves several stages: consultation, preparation, impressions, and bonding. It usually takes 2–3 visits.

Myth 05

Myth: veneers require special care

Standard hygiene is enough: brushing twice a day, flossing, and regular dental check-ups.

Issues

What problems do veneers solve?

Veneers are thin overlays without preparation: shape and colour are changed in two visits. The average lifespan of veneers is 10–15 years.

Crooked or very small teeth
Enamel colour that whitening can't fix
Hypocalcification — white spots on the enamel
Large gaps in the dental arch
One tooth sits outside the smile line
Gummy smile and short crowns

Which is better: veneers or crowns?

The choice between veneers and crowns depends on the condition of the tooth and the goal. Veneers cover the front surface, while a crown covers the entire tooth. Let's look at when each is suitable.

When veneers are chosen

Veneers are thin overlays on the front surface of a tooth. They are placed when color, shape, or minor chips need to be corrected. The enamel is preserved, the tooth is minimally prepared, and sometimes no preparation is needed. Veneers are appropriate for diastemas, enamel darkening, and minor misalignment. If the tooth crown is less than half destroyed, a veneer can cover the defect. The decision is made by the doctor after examination and diagnostics. It is important that sufficient support from the tooth's own tissues remains. The doctor assesses enamel thickness, gum condition, and bite. With thin enamel or extensive fillings, a veneer may not bond reliably. In such cases, a crown is preferred. The patient's age is also considered: in younger people the pulp is larger, so preparation should be gentle. Veneers are not suitable with active caries or gum inflammation — treatment is done first. If the tooth has had root canal treatment, it becomes fragile, and a veneer will not protect it from cracking.

When crowns are chosen

A crown completely covers the tooth, protecting it from further destruction. It is indicated if the tooth is severely damaged, after endodontic treatment, with cracks, or when a veneer cannot handle the load. A crown is placed on a tooth with a large filling, or on an implant. It distributes chewing pressure across the entire surface. The choice between a veneer and a crown depends on the clinical picture. The doctor assesses the degree of destruction, the condition of the root and gums. With significant tissue loss, a crown is more reliable; with a cosmetic defect, a veneer. Crowns are also indicated for discoloration that cannot be resolved by whitening, and for enamel development abnormalities. If a tooth has a crack or chip affecting more than half of the crown, a veneer cannot strengthen it. A crown covers the tooth on all sides, preventing further cracking. After nerve removal, the tooth becomes fragile, and a crown protects it from fracture. With severe tooth wear, crowns can restore bite height. The doctor also considers the amount of remaining tissue: if the tooth walls are thin or missing, a veneer will have no support.

What equipment is used for veneer placement

Veneer placement requires precise diagnostics and careful work. Modern equipment in the office helps the doctor control every stage — from imaging to bonding.

Diagnostic equipment

  • Cone beam CT: provides a three-dimensional image of the teeth and jaws, allowing assessment of tissue condition and planning of preparation.
  • Intraoral scanner: creates a digital model of the dental arch without impression material, which speeds up the process and improves accuracy.
  • Microscope: magnifies the working field up to 25 times, helping to see the boundaries of preparation and the edges of the veneer.
  • Camera: used to document the initial situation and to select the color of future restorations.
  • Digital intraoral X-ray sensor: provides periapical images of individual teeth with low radiation exposure, which is important for monitoring the condition of the roots and periapical tissues before veneer placement.

Equipment for preparation and bonding

  • Air turbine handpiece: with diamond burs of varying grit for removing enamel. The handpiece provides high rotation speed and precision, allowing removal of a minimal layer of tissue.
  • Laser: used for gingival margin contouring and tissue treatment when necessary. The laser allows bloodless procedures and reduces the risk of inflammation.
  • Ultrasonic device: helps remove plaque and cement residue after cementation. Ultrasound gently cleans the surface of veneers and teeth without damaging the ceramic.
  • Curing light: used to cure adhesive materials. Modern lights provide even illumination and shorten polymerization time.
  • Sandblasting unit: used to clean the veneer surface before cementation, which improves the bond between the cement and the ceramic.

How many veneers are needed on the front teeth

The number of veneers depends on which teeth fall within the smile zone. Typically, this includes the six upper front teeth, but often four or eight are treated. The decision is made by the dentist after an examination and a discussion about the desired outcome.

Typical placement patterns

SchemeWhich teethWhen it is suitable
4 veneersFrom canine to canineMinor defects in the center of the smile
6 veneersFrom first molar to first molarComplete smile correction
8 veneersIncluding second premolarsWide smile, side teeth are visible
10 veneersFrom second molar to second molarLarge smile, full restoration required

Special situations

Sometimes veneers are placed only on the two central teeth if the defect affects only them. However, this option is not always possible: the color and shape of the adjacent teeth must match, otherwise the difference will be noticeable. In cases of crowding or rotated teeth, orthodontic treatment is performed first, followed by veneer fabrication. If a tooth is severely damaged, a crown is indicated instead of a veneer. The decision depends on the clinical picture, and the dentist proposes the optimal plan after diagnosis. In some cases, a single veneer is sufficient, for example, for a chip or discoloration of one tooth. However, the dentist will warn that over time the color of adjacent teeth may change, and the difference will become noticeable. Therefore, it is often recommended to place veneers on symmetrical teeth for a harmonious smile. If the patient has dark teeth from tetracycline or fluorosis, more veneers may be needed to achieve an even color. The dentist also considers the smile line: in some people, only six upper teeth are visible when smiling, in others, all ten. An individual plan is created for each patient.

How to care for veneers

Caring for veneers is not much different from regular oral hygiene. But there are nuances worth knowing before placement. They determine how long the veneers will last.

Daily hygiene

  • Brushing: a medium-bristle brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Use sweeping motions, from the gum to the edge of the tooth.
  • Floss: use dental floss daily, gently sliding it between the teeth and veneers so as not to catch the edge.
  • Water flosser: helps rinse out food debris from the interdental spaces and massage the gums.
  • Mouthwash: alcohol-free and dye-free, after every meal if there is no opportunity to brush your teeth.
  • Interdental brushes: for cleaning the side surfaces of veneers and the areas near the gums where plaque accumulates.

Habits and diet

Veneers are made of ceramic or composite. Ceramic is stronger, but it can also crack under excessive load. Therefore, avoid chewing nuts, seeds, opening bottles with your teeth, and biting your nails. Hard foods like apples and carrots are safe if cut into pieces. Staining drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine can change the color of composite, while ceramic is resistant to pigments. If you participate in boxing or other contact sports, you should use a protective mouthguard. For bruxism—nighttime teeth grinding—the dentist may recommend a night guard. Regular dental check-ups every six months help detect chips and debonding early. It is also important to avoid sudden temperature changes, for example, do not follow hot food with ice cream—this can cause microcracks. If sensitivity or discomfort occurs, consult your dentist. Some patients note that veneers require an adjustment period, but the sensation passes within a few days. Following these recommendations will help keep your veneers in good condition for many years.

Removable veneers—what are they and how effective are they?

Removable veneers are overlays that the patient can remove independently. They differ from fixed veneers, which are attached by the dentist. Let's examine what they are and how effective they are.

What are removable veneers

Removable veneers are thin overlays on teeth that are attached without dental cement. They can be thermoplastic, softening in hot water, or clip-on, secured by clasps. Such designs are often used as a temporary solution to mask defects before placing permanent veneers, or to quickly change the appearance of the smile. However, their effectiveness is limited: they do not correct the bite and do not protect teeth from wear. Removable veneers can cause discomfort, require an adjustment period, and do not always fit tightly to the gum, which promotes plaque accumulation. Unlike fixed veneers, which are custom-made and attached by a dentist for a long term, removable ones are less durable and require more frequent replacement. The choice between types of veneers is made by the dentist after examination, based on the clinical picture and the patient's expectations. Removable veneers are often sold online as a 'Hollywood smile,' but they do not account for individual characteristics of the dental arch, can irritate the gums, and cause allergic reactions. Moreover, they do not solve dental problems but only mask them temporarily.

How to choose the color and shape of veneers?

Choosing the color and shape of veneers is a joint effort between the dentist and the patient. The dentist takes the patient's preferences into account but relies on the clinical picture and facial features.

Choosing the color

The color of veneers is selected using the Vita shade guide, which includes hundreds of shades. The dentist evaluates the color of the natural teeth, skin, lips, and eyes. They take the patient's preferences into account: some prefer a natural whiteness, while others want a Hollywood smile. However, veneers that are too white can look unnatural, especially if the other teeth are darker. The specialist will suggest an option that harmonizes with the face. The final decision is made by the patient, but the dentist can adjust expectations by showing samples. The color is fixed at the planning stage, and changing it after fabrication is difficult. Therefore, it is worth discussing all the details in advance and, if necessary, consulting the dentist again. The dentist also takes the patient's age into account: teeth naturally darken with age, so veneers that are too white can reveal age. For younger patients, lighter shades are often chosen, while for older patients, more natural ones are preferred. It is important to consider skin color: warm skin tones pair with yellowish shades, while cool tones pair with grayish ones. The dentist may use computer modeling to show how the smile will look with different shades. This helps the patient make a choice.

Choosing the shape

The shape of veneers depends on the shape of the face, facial features, tooth proportions, and gum line. Classic options are square, oval, and rectangular. The dentist considers how the teeth come together when speaking and smiling. Sometimes correction of the shape of adjacent teeth or gums is required. At the planning stage, impressions or digital modeling are made to show the future result. The patient can see how the smile will look and make changes before fixation. It is important that the shape of the veneers harmonizes with the facial features and does not disrupt the bite. The dentist selects the optimal option, but the final say remains with the patient. If there are doubts, temporary veneers can be made and evaluated in everyday life. The shape of veneers also depends on gender: men are more often suited to straighter and more substantial teeth, while women are more often suited to rounder and more delicate ones. Age also plays a role: teeth wear down with age, so veneers for older people are made shorter. The dentist pays attention to the smile line: it should be parallel to the lip line. If the gums are asymmetrical, gum contouring may be required.

How long does it take to place veneers?

The timeline for placing veneers depends on the clinical picture and the number of teeth. Usually the process takes from two to four visits.

First visit

At the first appointment, the dentist examines the teeth, performs diagnostics, and discusses the desired result with the patient. An X-ray or impression may be needed for planning. If the decision is made to place veneers, the dentist prepares the tooth: removes a thin layer of enamel, takes an impression, and places temporary veneers. This stage takes about one to two hours depending on the number of teeth. After that, the impression is sent to the dental laboratory, where the permanent veneers are made. Usually the process takes one to two weeks. During this time, the patient wears temporary restorations that protect the prepared teeth and allow them to get used to the new look of the smile. Temporary veneers are made of composite material or acrylic; they are less durable but serve their purpose. The dentist gives recommendations for caring for temporary veneers: avoid hard foods and staining agents. If veneers are planned for several teeth, the process may take longer. An additional visit for taking impressions may also be required if a two-stage technique is used. Some clinics use digital modeling, which can shorten fabrication time.

Second and subsequent visits

At the next visit, the dentist removes the temporary veneers and tries on the permanent ones. First, the veneers are placed without bonding to evaluate the color and fit. If needed, the shape or shade is adjusted. Then the veneers are bonded with a special cement that hardens under a curing light. The dentist checks the bite and polishes the edges. This visit usually takes one to two hours. If many veneers need to be placed or there are bite complications, an additional visit may be needed for final adjustments. The exact number of visits is determined by the dentist after the examination. The patient should plan their time with possible adjustments in mind. After bonding, the dentist gives care instructions and schedules a follow-up check in a few weeks. In some cases, an occlusion adjustment may be needed if the patient feels discomfort. It is also possible that the veneers will need polishing after some time if roughness appears. Overall, the veneer placement process takes two to four weeks, including the laboratory stage. It is important for the patient to follow all the dentist's recommendations between visits to avoid complications.

What to keep in mind

Key takeaways

The choice between veneers and crowns depends on the condition of the tooth and the patient's goals. Veneers preserve more tissue but require a healthy foundation. Crowns are indicated for damage when a veneer would not be sufficient. Removable veneers are a temporary solution; their effect is limited, and they do not replace permanent treatment. Caring for veneers is not difficult but requires discipline: regular hygiene and dental check-ups are essential. The color and shape are selected based on individual characteristics so that the result looks natural. Placement takes several visits, and the exact timing depends on the clinical situation. It is important to understand that veneers are an investment in health and appearance, and their selection should be approached responsibly. It is not worth chasing low cost or quick results, as this can lead to complications. It is better to trust an experienced dentist and follow their recommendations. Then the veneers will last a long time and please you with their aesthetics.

The doctor's decision

The final decision on the treatment method is made by the dentist after examination and diagnostics. They assess the condition of the teeth, the bite, the patient's wishes, and the prognosis. The dentist explains which options are possible in the specific case and recommends the optimal one. The patient participates in the choice, but the final say remains with the specialist. It is important to understand that there is no universal solution: each clinical case is unique. By trusting the dentist, you receive a plan that takes all nuances into account. The outcome of treatment depends on many factors, including adherence to recommendations. The dentist also assesses whether the patient is ready for the procedure and understands all the risks. If the patient has doubts, the dentist may offer alternative options or an additional consultation. The dentist is obliged to warn about possible complications and provide written recommendations. The patient should be prepared for the fact that regular monitoring will be required after veneer placement. The dentist will schedule follow-up visits to assess the condition of the veneers and gums. Only through the joint efforts of the dentist and the patient can a good result be achieved.

FAQ

Veneers in Almaty: most frequently asked questions

The price of veneers depends on the material, the number of teeth, and the complexity of the work. The final cost can only be determined after an examination by the dentist, as the condition of the teeth and individual characteristics are taken into account. See current prices in the pricing section on our website. The initial examination and treatment plan are free of charge at our clinic.

The cost of veneers for front teeth depends on the number of teeth and the material. The price per veneer is listed in the price list, but the total amount is calculated after an examination by the dentist. The dentist will assess the condition of the teeth and recommend the necessary number of veneers to achieve the best result. You will find out the exact cost at the consultation, which is free of charge at our clinic.

The lifespan of veneers depends on the material and care: ceramic veneers typically last 10–15 years, while composite veneers last 5–7 years. Our clinic provides a warranty of up to 5 years on veneers. To make your veneers last longer, maintain good oral hygiene and avoid excessive stress on your teeth. Regular check-ups help detect potential issues early and extend the life of your restorations.

Yes, in some cases it is possible to place veneers without preparation, for example, lumineers or ultra-thin veneers about 0.3 mm thick. However, the decision is made by the dentist after an examination, since traditional veneers usually require minimal enamel reduction for better bonding. During the consultation, the dentist will assess your teeth and suggest the best option. If the enamel is sufficiently even and healthy, a minimally invasive technique may be recommended.

Veneers can correct minor misalignments and irregularities, but significant bite anomalies or severe tooth displacement may require orthodontic treatment. During the examination, the prosthodontist will determine whether veneers are suitable in your case or whether braces or aligners should be considered. Veneers are an aesthetic restoration, not a method for correcting bite. For complex cases, a combination of orthodontics followed by restoration may be recommended.

If a veneer chips, you should see a dentist as soon as possible for an examination and repair. Depending on the size of the chip, the dentist may polish the damaged area, repair it with composite material, or replace the veneer. Our clinic offers a warranty of up to 5 years on veneers, so if the chip occurs during the warranty period, the repair will be done free of charge.

The main types of veneers are composite and ceramic (including E.max and zirconia). Composite veneers are made chairside in a single visit and are more affordable, but less durable. Ceramic veneers are crafted in a laboratory, offer high strength and a natural appearance, and last longer. The choice depends on your goals and budget; the dentist will help you decide during the consultation.

For front teeth, ceramic veneers are most often chosen because they provide the best aesthetics and color reproduction. E.max ceramic achieves natural translucency, while zirconia veneers offer increased strength. Composite veneers are a more budget-friendly option, but they lose their appearance more quickly. During the examination, the dentist will select the optimal material based on your preferences.

Veneers are thin overlays on the front surface of the tooth; they preserve more tooth structure and are used for minor defects. Crowns fully cover the tooth and are used for severe damage. If the tooth is severely damaged or the issue is below the gum line, a crown is preferable, while for aesthetic correction of front teeth veneers are usually sufficient. The decision is made by the dentist after diagnostics.

No-prep veneers are ultra-thin ceramic shells (for example, lumineers) that are placed without prior enamel reduction. They are suitable for teeth with a smooth surface and minor defects. However, they are not suitable for all patients, so a dental consultation is necessary. The dentist will assess the condition of the enamel and bite to determine whether no-prep placement is possible.

My biggest fear was a "Hollywood" cookie-cutter smile. The doctor made a wax mock-up and placed it right over my teeth — I walked around, looked in the mirror, and asked to shorten the canines a bit. They redid it before the grinding, not after.

I couldn't sleep at night. I booked through the website and they called me back ten minutes later. I had veneers done, and they explained every step in advance. Booking was easy. I would recommend it. They gave me both the contract and the receipt. I didn't have to wait in line. The room was clean, with no smell.

The crown is indistinguishable from my own teeth. They matched the crown color to the neighboring teeth, and the temporary crown was placed right away. At first the quiet in the waiting room threw me off — then I understood why. All in all, no regrets. And that's it. At the fitting they adjusted the shape until it matched. They arranged the installment plan on the spot, no running around to banks, which I'd never seen anywhere before. The contract and receipt were given without me having to ask. Parking is in the courtyard, and I found a spot just as agreed. They answered questions even after the appointment, via messenger, which I'd never seen anywhere before. The impression was taken with a scanner, no tray or goop in the mouth

I came in for veneers, but the doctor suggested whitening first and seeing how it looked. The whitening turned out well, and in the end I didn't need the veneers. It's nice when they don't sell you things you don't need.
